Mount’s double gives Chelsea a win over Aston Villa

Date:

Chelsea continued their awakening in the Premier League under the leadership of their new coach Graham Potter, and won their host Aston Villa (2-0) on Sunday evening, in the eleventh round of the competition.

Mason Mont scored the two goals in the 6th and 65th minutes, bringing Chelsea’s balance to 19 points in fourth place, while Aston Villa’s balance froze at 9 points in 17th place.

Potter relied on the 3-4-3 method of play, with Trevoh Chalubah standing alongside Thiago Silva and Mark Cucuria in the back line, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ben Chilwell on both sides, Mateo Kovacic cooperated with Mason Mount in the midfield, and Rahim Sterling and Kai Havertz moved, Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang swore.

On the other hand, Aston Villa coach Steven Gerrard resorted to a 4-3-3 method, where the back line of Matt Cash, Tyrone Mings, Esri Konsa and Ashley Young, and Douglas Luiz played the role of the center player, and moved in front of John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey, behind three Attacking, Leon Bailey, Ole Watkins, and Danny Ings.

Aston Villa almost opened the scoring early in the second minute, when Mings passed the ball to Luiz, who fired a shot that was brilliantly pardoned by Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

But Chelsea managed to open the scoring in the sixth minute, when Mount took advantage of a wrong ball from Mings’s back, to put it out of reach of Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Aston Villa tried to respond quickly, McGinn sent a cross from the left, and Jamaican Bailey headed it, but his attempt bounced off the crossbar in the 15th minute.

And goalkeeper Kepa excelled in stopping a double opportunity in the 21st minute, when he saved an attempt from McGinn, to return the ball to Ramsey, who fired a powerful shot, the Spanish goalkeeper did not delay in stopping it.

Kepa returned again to save his team’s goal in the 27th minute, when he ably blocked McGinn’s attempt from a difficult angle, then the Spanish goalkeeper flew to tackle a close header from Ings after a distinctive cross from Bailey in the 31st

minute. When Havertz broke through the Aston Villa defense, before passing to Sterling, who shot from the left side into the penalty area, the ball bounced off the goal frame.

And between the two halves, Potter made a tactical adjustment, when he involved Cesar Azpilicueta and Kalidou Coulibaly in the place of Kokoria and Havertz, to move to the 4-3-3 method of play.

The hosts pressed for a tie, and Watkins fired a long shot from Chelsea in the 56th minute, then Conor Gallagher participated in the Chelsea squad instead of the unsuccessful Aubameyang.

Goalkeeper Kepa continued his creativity in the 62nd minute, when he blocked a low shot from McGinn in the 62nd minute, then Jorginho entered Kovacic’s place.

Chelsea strengthened their lead with a second goal in the 65th minute, when Mount took a free kick, which settled in the middle of the Aston Villa goal.

Aston Villa tried to improve the performance in attack, by involving Buendia and Philippe Coutinho, and Sterling’s header crossed the right post of the visiting team’s goal in the 72nd minute.

Aston Villa seemed helpless in the last quarter of an hour, and goalkeeper Martinez saved him from the third goal in the 82nd minute. , when he left Sterling’s shot.
