Italian football club “Napoli” beat the English “Liverpool” in the match of the first round of the group stage of the Champions League.
Group A meeting, held in Naples, ended with a score of 4:1 in favor of the hosts. For the winners, goals were scored by Piotr Zielinski (5th minute – from the penalty spot; 47), Andre Zambo-Angissa (31), and Giovanni Simeone (44). The only goal in the finalists of the last tournament was scored by Luis Diaz (49).
Liverpool last lost in a landslide on February 7, 2021, when the team lost at home in the Premier League to Manchester City (1:4). In the Champions League, the English club last lost with a big score on May 1, 2019 – in the first semi-final match with the Spanish “Barcelona” (0:3). However, the Reds managed to subsequently reach the final and win the trophy.
In the next round, Liverpool will take on the Dutch Ajax on September 13, and Napoli will play the Scottish club Rangers on the same day.
In the Group D match, the French English Tottenham Hotspur, thanks to a double by Richarlison, beat the French Marseille at home (2:0).
