Newcastle United qualified for the golden square of the English Professional Football League Cup, after winning at home and passing the quarter-finals.
Newcastle defeated its guest Leicester City 2-0 this evening, Tuesday, in the quarter-finals of the prestigious competition, at St. James Park.
Newcastle waited until the second half to settle the victory after the first half ended in a goalless draw.
Defender Dan Bourne led Newcastle with a goal in the 60th minute, then Brazilian striker Jolinton added the second goal in the 72nd minute.
In the rest of the eight-round matches, Manchester City will meet today, Wednesday, with its host, Southampton, and Nottingham Forest, with its guest, Wolverhampton.
