On Thursday, the Spanish Federation and La Liga agreed to re-register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in Barcelona’s squad, following the ruling of the Supreme Sports Council.
The two players have been listed on the Spanish Federation and La Liga websites as part of Barcelona’s official roster.
As a result of this decision, Olmo and Pau Victor are eligible to play in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday, where Barcelona will face the winner of the semi-final between Real Madrid and Mallorca.
The decision by the Federation and La Liga followed the approval from the Higher Sports Council on Wednesday, which authorized the temporary registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor until the final ruling on Barcelona’s appeal.
The Council explained that it had thoroughly reviewed the 52-page appeal and more than 60 supporting documents submitted by Barcelona in order to assess the urgency of the precautionary measure.
The origins of the Olmo and Victor case trace back to last summer when Barcelona’s management used the severe injury of Danish defender Andreas Christensen as an opportunity to register Olmo. However, they failed to provide the necessary guarantees within the set deadline of midnight on December 31, 2024, to meet La Liga’s Financial Fair Play conditions (the 1:1 rule).
As a result, the Federation clarified that it could not grant any licenses without the League’s approval.
In response to the situation, Barcelona’s management took measures to raise funds by selling VIP seats in the VIP box at the Spotify Camp Nou stadium, aiming to resolve the ongoing financial crisis.
