Paris Saint-Germain bounced back in the French League with a 3-1 triumph over Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday evening, in a key matchup of the 15th round.
Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha, and Gonçalo Ramos netted for Paris Saint-Germain, with goals in the 8th, 14th, and 88th minutes, while Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze replied with a goal in the 40th minute.
With this victory, Paris Saint-Germain moved to 37 points at the top of the table, bouncing back from two consecutive draws against Nantes and Auxerre in the previous rounds.
Olympique Lyonnais remains on 25 points, holding fifth place in the French league standings.
Paris Saint-Germain stunned their hosts with an early attack, as Désiré Doué impressed on the left flank, delivering a cross that Ousmane Dembélé converted into the net with his foot, scoring his seventh goal of the season in the league.
A few minutes later, Lyon’s Nemanja Matić fouled Doué, leading the referee to award a penalty, which Vitinha confidently converted, giving PSG a 2-0 lead less than 15 minutes into the match.
Lucas Beraldo nearly added a third goal from a corner, but his header went just wide of the post.
Lyon found their rhythm towards the end of the first half, with Georges Mikautadze scoring a beautifully timed goal into Gianluigi Donnarumma’s net, thanks to a precise through ball from Rayan Cherki.
In the final moments of the half, Achraf Hakimi mishandled a cross, giving Jordan Veretout a chance to shoot, but Donnarumma was quick to react and made the save, denying Lyon an equalizer.
Paris began the second half with the same attacking intensity, though Li Kang and Zahir Emery squandered clear chances to extend their lead.
A potential goal by Désiré Doi was ruled out for offside, as Achraf Hakimi, who initiated the attack, was also flagged offside.
In the 63rd minute, PSG coach Luis Enrique made a triple substitution to freshen up the team, bringing on Bradley Barcola, Marquinhos, and Lucas Hernandez in place of Beraldo, Nuno Mendes, and Lee Kang. Gonçalo Ramos also replaced Doi shortly after.
Ramos immediately scored PSG’s third goal after following up on Barcola’s shot, which Lyon’s goalkeeper had saved.
The teams exchanged attacking plays, but Paris held firm, sealing a well-deserved victory, following their 3-0 Champions League win over Salzburg.
