Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, addressed the comments made by Norwegian striker Erling Haaland following the team’s defeat to Aston Villa in the English Premier League.
After the match, Haaland stated, “We have to keep working. The first thing I have to do is look at myself. I’m not doing things well enough. I’m not converting the chances I get. I need to improve.”
Pep Guardiola quickly reacted to his player’s remarks, offering his own perspective in comments reported by the Spanish newspaper Sport. “I don’t agree with Haaland,” he said. “Without him, we would be in a worse position. At the same time, I appreciate when players show self-criticism. It’s the only way to grow and improve.”
The Spanish coach continued, “Haaland is putting in every effort, but we are not providing him with the right passes. We need to deliver better balls to him.”
It is important to note that Manchester City has faced 9 defeats and 2 draws, with just one victory in their last 12 matches across all competitions.
