Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez commented on Vinícius Júnior missing out on the Ballon d’Or this year during the club’s general assembly.
“Rodri is undoubtedly a fantastic player. He’s from Madrid, and we admire him, but he deserved the Ballon d’Or for last year, not this year,” Pérez remarked.
The 2023 Ballon d’Or was awarded to Lionel Messi, while Rodri finished in fifth place.
Florentino Pérez Highlights Vinícius and Pays Tribute to Real Madrid Legends
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez expressed his thoughts on this year’s Ballon d’Or during the club’s general assembly, emphasizing that a Real Madrid player deserved the award.
“This year, the Ballon d’Or should have gone to a Real Madrid player,” Pérez stated. “We are immensely proud of Vinícius Júnior. For many, he is the best player in the world. Dear Vinícius, the Madrid fans stand by you, proud of everything you’ve endured, often unfairly, which has shaped you into the incredible player you are today.”
Pérez reflected on the club’s achievements, describing it as a “historic year” and highlighting the unity and passion within the squad. “We are witnessing one of the most important winning cycles in our history. This team’s players are true Madridistas, deeply connected to this badge and aware of what this shirt represents.”
He extended his admiration to key players, including Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão, wishing them well in their recoveries. “A special salute to Carvajal and Militão, two pillars of this team. We look forward to seeing them back on the pitch soon.” Pérez also praised David Alaba, noting his final stages of recovery.
The Real Madrid president reserved heartfelt words for retired legend Toni Kroos: “It will be very difficult to see someone like Toni Kroos again. He is one of the greatest players in our history and a legend in world football. His tribute on May 25 was unforgettable. Dear Toni, thank you for all you’ve given us. This place will always be your home.”
Pérez also recognized Joselu, who led the team to its 15th Champions League final, and Nacho, a longstanding symbol of Real Madrid’s values. “Nacho has spent 23 years at this club. He represents the spirit of Real Madrid and serves as a role model for the academy’s kids. Dear Nacho, we wish you all the best in this new chapter of your life.”
Notably, Joselu moved to Al-Gharafa in Qatar last summer, while Nacho now plays for Al-Qadisiyah in Saudi Arabia. Toni Kroos announced his retirement at the end of last season.
