Paul Pogba has suggested that his future is already set as the midfielder approaches his comeback, following the reduction of his doping suspension.
In February, the French midfielder received a substantial four-year ban after testing positive for multiple doping violations, casting uncertainty over his future. However, with his return to football now on the horizon, Pogba recently posted a cryptic update on Instagram, featuring a series of emojis that could suggest his footballing future has already been determined.
After appealing the original ban, Pogba successfully had it reduced to 18 months following a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The official statement explained that his positive test for DHEA was unintentional, resulting from the erroneous intake of a supplement prescribed by a doctor in Florida. As a result, his suspension was shortened, and he will be eligible to return to play in March 2025. However, it remains uncertain which clubs are currently interested in signing him.
Since it was announced that Pogba would be returning to football in early 2025, several clubs have been linked with him. A potential reunion with Manchester United has been speculated, although former Red Devils star Andrew Cole cautioned that signing Pogba would be a significant gamble, referring to him as still being a “baby.” In addition, reports suggest that the 2018 World Cup winner is also considering a move to Ligue 1 club Marseille.
Wherever Pogba decides to continue his career after his 18-month absence, regaining his full fitness will pose a significant challenge. Currently, a free agent following his release from Juventus, some pundits consider him a risky signing. Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown stated, “It will take him some time to return to the levels we’ve seen from him before… Someone will definitely pick him up, no doubt about it, but I can’t see it being Manchester United, to be honest.”
