After having a conversation with the Aruja’s current coach, Luis de la Fuente, Spanish defender Sergio Ramos of Paris Saint-Germain made the announcement today, Thursday, regarding his international retirement.
Additionally, the former Real Madrid captain issued the following official statement via his social media accounts: The time has come to bid the national team farewell. The current coach called me this morning and told me he wouldn’t count on me, no matter what level I play at or how I continue my sports career.
He went on to say, “This is the end of a journey that, based on all the successes I have achieved with the national team, I wish would have lasted longer and ended better.”
“I believed that this career deserved to end with a personal decision, or that my level did not live up to what the national team deserves, and not because of age or other reasons, because age is not related to performance,” he continued.
He went on to say, “I look with jealousy and admiration at Modric, Messi, and Pepe, as they represent the essence, traditions, values, and justice in football,” but “sadly it will not be the same with me” because “the idea of football is not always fair.”
He then went on to say: As a result, I share this with you with sadness but with a straight face and gratitude for all of your support throughout the years. I am proud to be the most-capped Spain player, and I have wonderful memories and titles we fought for and celebrated together. I was delighted by this slogan, shirt, and fans.
He concluded by saying: With the sense of pride that I was able to represent it in 180 matches, I will continue to support it from home. I thank you in all sincerity for your consistent confidence in me.”
From 2005 to 2021, Ramos played for the Spanish national team, where he had a successful career.
Ramos won three major championships with Spain: the World Cup in 2010, and the Euros twice in 2008 and 2012, and the World Cup in 2010.
He also represented Spain at 2006, 2014, and 2018 World Cups, Euro 2016, and twice in the Confederations Cup in 2009 and 2013. He played 180 international matches for his country and scored 23 goals in those matches.
