Manchester United and France defender Raphael Varane has announced his retirement from the national team. The Frenchman made the announcement on social media.
“Representing our great country for a decade was perhaps the greatest honor of my life. Every time I wore this special jersey for the national team, I felt great pride. I thought about it for several months and decided that it was time for me to end my career in international football,” Varan wrote on social networks.
The 29-year-old added that “it’s time for a new generation to take his place.”
As part of the French national team, Varane played 94 matches and scored 5 goals, became the 2018 world champion in Russia with the team, and also won the League of Nations in 2021.
