Real Madrid Withdraws from the Alphonso Davies Deal
Real Madrid has officially decided to withdraw from the Alphonso Davies deal. After a year of interest, the Spanish giants will no longer pursue the Canadian full-back. According to Marca, this marks the end of a long-running transfer saga.
Why Real Madrid Abandoned the Deal
Real Madrid had been monitoring Davies closely, especially with his contract set to expire in 2025. The club followed a strategy similar to its past pursuits of players like David Alaba and Kylian Mbappé, hoping to secure the talented full-back. However, as negotiations progressed, the deal fell apart.
Bayern Munich’s Renewal with Davies
The turning point came when Bayern Munich and Alphonso Davies agreed on a contract renewal. The new deal ensures that Davies will stay with the German club for several more years, putting an end to Real Madrid’s hopes of signing him. Marca reported that Bayern had been prepared for the possibility of losing Davies, but now he will remain in Munich for the foreseeable future.
The Negotiation Roadblocks
During the negotiations, Bayern Munich had asked for €50 million to release Davies last summer. Real Madrid, however, found that sum too high and decided to wait until Davies was available for free in 2025. Unfortunately, this strategy didn’t pay off, as Bayern moved quickly to secure a new deal with the player.
Agent Issues and Shifting Demands
Another challenge for Real Madrid was the involvement of Davies’ agent, Nidal Hosa. Marca mentioned that on multiple occasions, Real Madrid thought an agreement was close, but Hosa kept pushing for new terms. This back-and-forth delayed the process and ultimately contributed to the breakdown in talks.
What’s Next for Real Madrid?
With the Alphonso Davies deal now off the table, Real Madrid will turn their attention elsewhere to strengthen their left-back position. Currently, Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia are options, but the club may also consider bringing back Miguel Gutiérrez, who is currently on loan.
