The Senegal national football team beat the team of Ecuador in the final round of the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar and reached the playoffs of the tournament.
The Group A meeting, held at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, ended with a score of 2:1. As part of the Senegalese, Ismaila Sarr scored, who converted a penalty, and Kalidou Koulibaly. Moises Caicedo scored the ball for the Ecuadorians.
Koulibaly, who has been with the Senegal national team since 2015, scored his debut goal for the team.
Senegal finished second in Group A with six points. In a parallel match, the Netherlands team beat the Qataris (2:0) and advanced to the playoffs from first place. Ecuador (4) finished third, and Qatar (0) fourth.
The best result of the Senegalese at the world championships is the quarter-final at the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea. At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the African team did not qualify from the group.
