Manchester United suffered a surprise defeat at home to Real Sociedad (0-1), today, Thursday, in the opening of his campaign in the European League.
Brice Mendes scored the match’s only goal, with a penalty kick in the 59th minute.
In the same fifth group, the Moldovan Sherif Tiraspol defeated Omonia Nicosia of Cyprus with three clean goals, to top the standings.
And the first ten minutes of the match passed, without a real threat from both teams.
In the 14th minute, the ball reached Ronaldo inside the Sociedad penalty area, but Gurosabel cut it in front of him to be picked up by goalkeeper Remiro.
On the other hand, Silva passed the ball to Mendes, who hit the right post of United’s goal, in the 27th minute.
Dalot crossed Ronaldo, who headed it into the net, but the referee’s banner canceled the goal after the Portuguese star was offside, in the 35th minute. And

Sociedad responded in the 54th minute, when Munoz made a distinctive cross from the left side, and substitute Sorloth rose to it without succeeding in heading it into the net.
Fernandez passed on the right side, and Casemiro waited to send him a cross, but the latter’s header crossed the crossbar in the 65th minute.
Jadon Sancho and Alejandro entered Garnacho in the ranks of the Red Devils, instead of Anthony and Ilanga.
Sociedad’s goalkeeper blocked a shot from Casemiro, after a pass from Fred in the 77th minute.
United continued their pressure when Fred dropped the ball into the penalty area to Ronaldo, who followed it off the goal, in the 85th minute.
Martinez went from the left side, to pass to Garnacho, who fired a shot over the goal, in the 88th minute, before the match ended with the Spanish team winning (1-0).
