The Korean national team pulled out a victory over Portugal in the group stage match of the 2022 World Cup – 2: 1.
Two goals were scored in the first half. Portuguese striker Ricardo Horta scored in the 5th minute of the meeting, and in the 27th minute, Korean defender Kim Yong Gwon equalized the score.
In stoppage time of the second half, striker Hwang Hee-chang scored in a counterattack.
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo started and was substituted midway through the second half. Ronaldo, 37, has never scored a field goal in the 2022 World Cup group stage. In the match against Korea, he sent the ball into the net, but the goal was not counted due to offside. The forward of the Portuguese national team scored the only goal in the tournament from the penalty spot – in the 1st round against Ghana (3:2).
The Portuguese team with 6 points took first place in group H. Korea scored 4 points and made it to the 1/8 finals, bypassing the Uruguay team in additional indicators.
In the 1/8 finals, the Portuguese will play with the second team of group G, the Koreans – with the winner of this quartet.
