The Spanish Football Federation announced today, Thursday, the new coach of the national team, who will take over after the dismissal of Luis Enrique.

In a statement on its official website, the Spanish Federation indicated the appointment of Luis de Lafuente, coach of the Spanish Olympic team, who won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year.

The statement confirmed that the coaching director of the federation recommended in his report the appointment of De la Fuente, the current coach of the U-21 youth team, to lead the first team in the next stage of the 2022 World Cup competitions in Qatar.

The new coach of the Spain national team will start his career in the Norway and Scotland matches, scheduled for next March, as part of the European Nations Cup (Euro 2024) qualifiers that will be held in Germany.

The new coach of the Spain national team will be presented at a press conference, which will be held next Monday, December 12th.

De la Fuente, 61, achieved some achievements with the Spain youth team, including winning the European Championship in 2015 with the U-19 team, and the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in 2018 with the U-18 team.

He also led Spain’s U-21 youth team to win the European Championship in 2019 and finally the silver of the Tokyo Olympics last year.
