Three people have been arrested in connection with alleged racist abuse directed at Barcelona players Lamine Yamal and Raphinha during their last clasico match against real madrid in Santiagu Bernabeu.
Barcelona took control in the latest El Clasico, leaving Real Madrid fans to witness a humiliating defeat at the Bernabeu. However, some fans crossed a serious line by allegedly directing racist insults at Raphinha and the standout 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, both of whom had exceptional performances.
Before the match began, Barcelona and Real Madrid were separated by just three points at the top of the table, with Barcelona’s exciting young squad making a strong start to the season. The match was expected to be a fierce contest, reminiscent of the intense El Clasico encounters from the early 2010s. However, Real Madrid collapsed in the second half, conceding four goals in just 30 minutes.
The home fans expressed their frustration with whistles and boos, but some went too far with their protests. Spanish police confirmed that three individuals were arrested following alleged racist abuse aimed at Barcelona players Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
In an X post made by the Spanish National Police, they stated: “Three arrested for uttering racist remarks against two football players during El Clasico played last October.
“Those arrested made xenophobic statements that violated the dignity and moral integrity of both.”
As the investigation into fan behavior at the El Clasico continues, both teams now turn their attention to upcoming matches. Barcelona will face Celta Vigo on Saturday, aiming to preserve their six-point lead over Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will travel to Leganes, where a victory is crucial to keep the pressure on Barcelona at the top of the league.
