Polish striker Robert Lewandowski shared his delight after playing a key role in Barcelona’s 3-0 triumph over French side Stade Brest on Tuesday evening during the fifth round of the Champions League.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have achieved 101 goals in the Champions League. It’s a significant milestone, one I never imagined achieving,” Lewandowski shared in remarks quoted by the Spanish newspaper AS.
When asked about joining Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in reaching this tally, he responded, “Yes, they are two exceptional players. Today, we played cohesively as a team. At times, our pace was slow, but patience paid off as we added two more goals in the second half. Ultimately, we secured three valuable points. Am I on their level? That’s a bold claim.”
“Our primary goal in every match is to secure a victory. Scoring goals to contribute to the team’s success makes it even more rewarding. From now until the season’s end, we must aim to win every game,” Lewandowski stated.
He also praised the young talents Pedri and Casado, adding: “Both are exceptional players with immense quality. Our midfield is packed with talent, and we have the depth to rotate from the bench. This is crucial, especially with the new Champions League format.”
Barcelona’s goals were netted by Lewandowski, who scored twice, and Dani Olmo, finding the back of the net in the 10th, 66th, and 90+2 minutes.
This victory lifted Barcelona to 12 points, securing second place in the standings, while Stade Brest remained at 10 points in ninth.
