Tunisian Ons Jabeur achieved a new historical achievement, by qualifying for the first time to the quarter-finals of the US Open Tennis Championships.
This came after her victory over Russian Veronika Kodermetova, ranked 18 in the world, in two sets without a response, 7-6, 6-4, after an hour and 32 minutes of play.
Ons Jabeur qualified for the first time in her career for the quarter-finals of the tournament, earning 300 points and moving up two places in the world rankings, to temporarily jump to third place in the world with 4220 points.
Ons Jabeur will be a step away from regaining second place in the world, especially since the Estonian Annette Kontaveit, who occupies this position, left the tournament in the second round, which cost her a loss of 60 points, bringing her score to 4300 points.
Tomorrow, Ons Jabeur will face Australian Agla Tomljanovic, ranked 46th in the world, in the quarter-finals, which eliminated Russian Lyudmila Samsonova, ranked 35th in the world, with a score of 7-6, 6-1.
Ons Jabeur had previously met with Tomljanovic on two occasions, and won her twice, the first in the 2012 Moroccan Championship, in two groups, and the second was in the second round of the Rome Championship last May with two groups without a response, which means that the Tunisian will enter the confrontation with moral precedence.
