Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Getafe on Sunday evening at the Santiago Bernabeu, in the 15th round of La Liga.
Real Madrid triumphed 2-0 over Getafe, with goals from Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe in the 30th and 38th minutes. This win allowed them to capitalize on Barcelona’s shock 1-2 loss to Las Palmas yesterday.
Real Madrid’s victory brought them to 33 points, just one behind leaders Barcelona, with a match in hand against Valencia. Getafe remained stuck on 13 points, sitting in 17th place in the La Liga standings.
The match began with Real Madrid on the offensive. Rodrigo made a run into Getafe’s penalty area but was brought down after a challenge from Diego Rico, although the referee waved away his appeals for a penalty. In the 15th minute, Brahim Diaz fired a shot inside the penalty area, but it was blocked by the defence and fell safely into goalkeeper David Soria’s hands.
Real Madrid were awarded a penalty in the 26th minute after Getafe defender Nyom fouled Antonio Rudiger inside the box. Jude Bellingham confidently converted the penalty in the 30th minute, sending the ball straight down the middle to put Madrid ahead.
Kylian Mbappe doubled their lead in the 38th minute, receiving a pass from Bellingham and curling a low shot into the bottom left corner, beyond Soria’s reach.
Fede Valverde nearly extended Real Madrid’s lead with a powerful shot from outside the area, but it flew over the crossbar.
In the 49th minute, Real Madrid was awarded a penalty for a handball by Getafe’s Berrocal. However, after reviewing the play with video technology, the referee reversed the decision, ruling there was no handball.
Getafe’s Uche came close to pulling one back in the 55th minute with a strong shot that rattled the crossbar of Thibaut Courtois’ goal.
Kylian Mbappe squandered the best chance of the match in the 73rd minute. After receiving a through pass from Brahim Diaz, he dribbled past the goalkeeper but shockingly missed the target, shooting wide of the post.
Getafe goalkeeper David Soria remained sharp, denying another Mbappe effort inside the box in the 76th minute.
Despite continued pressure from Madrid in the final 15 minutes, they couldn’t add to their lead, and the match concluded with a 2-0 victory for the home team.
