Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw with Fulham on Saturday evening at Anfield Stadium in the 16th round of the English Premier League.
Andreas Pereira (11′) and Rodrigo Muniz (76′) were the scorers for Fulham, while Cody Gakpo (47′) and Diogo Jota (86′) found the net for Liverpool.
Liverpool’s points increased to 36, keeping them five points clear of Chelsea at the top of the table, while Fulham moved to 24 points, sitting in ninth place.
Fulham narrowly avoided a major setback in the opening minutes when the referee handed defender Issa Diop just a yellow card for a dangerous challenge on Robertson.
Fulham took the lead in the 11th minute when Pereira performed an acrobatic finish to convert a cross from full-back Anthony Robinson.
Liverpool’s situation worsened in the 17th minute when Robertson was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Fulham’s Harry Wilson.
Wilson had a chance to double Fulham’s lead with a free kick in the 22nd minute, but his shot sailed over the bar after clearing the Liverpool wall.
Robinson then made another dangerous run down the left wing in the 31st minute, passing to Pereira, who quickly laid the ball off to Wilson. However, Wilson’s attempt was bravely blocked by Joe Gomez.
Liverpool responded late in the first half, with Mohamed Salah initiating a promising attack before passing to Szoboszlai, who delivered a cross. Gakpo was in position to head it home but missed, sending the ball over the bar in the 42nd minute.
Liverpool came out determined to equalize at the start of the second half, and they did so in the 47th minute. Salah delivered a cross to the far post, where Gakpo was perfectly positioned to head the ball into the net.
Gomez made a run forward towards Fulham’s penalty area in the 57th minute and unleashed a shot, but Fulham goalkeeper Leno easily gathered the effort.
In the 61st minute, Wilson had a chance to put Fulham back in front after a cross from Robinson, but his attempt narrowly missed the far post of Liverpool’s goal.
Salah squandered a golden opportunity in the 66th minute, receiving a pass from Szoboszlai during a counterattack. However, he shot with his left foot, sending the ball just wide of the near post.
Fulham regained their lead in the 76th minute after a swift counterattack. The ball found Robinson on the left, who passed it to substitute Muniz. Despite pressure from Gomez, Muniz expertly finished the chance into the net.
Liverpool coach Arne Slot made two substitutions, bringing on Harvey Elliott and Diogo Jota for Szoboszlai and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Elliott had a chance to score in the 81st minute, but his curling shot narrowly missed the top corner of Fulham’s goal.
In the 86th minute, Liverpool equalized once again. Nunez played a clever through ball to Jota, who skillfully evaded Diop before firing a low shot that wrong-footed goalkeeper Leno and found the back of the net.
Liverpool pushed for a winner in stoppage time, but Jota’s effort from inside the penalty area was blocked by the defence and went over the bar. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
