After a thrilling victory over Brazilian Flamengo (3-2) on Tuesday evening at Tangier Stadium, Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia made history by qualifying for the FIFA Club World Cup final in Morocco.
From two penalty kicks, Salem Al-Dosari scored the first two goals for Al-Hilal in the fourth and 45 minutes and 9 seconds, and Luciano Vietto added the third goal for the leader in the 70th minute. Pedro scored the two goals for Flamengo in the 20th and 90 minutes and 1 second, respectively.
After participating in the tournament for the third time, Al-Hilal will now await the winner of the other semi-final match between Real Madrid and Al-Ahly of Egypt for the first time.
Al-Hilal pressed hard offensively in the first few minutes of the first half. After Vito was stopped by Flamengo defender Matthews Silva, Al-Hilal won a penalty kick, which Salem Al-Dosari converted and put in the net.
Abdullah Al-Mayouf, the leader of the defense and goalkeeper for Flamengo, resisted the Brazilian attempts to make an offensive change to the score.
Gerson Santos, a Flamengo player, was given a yellow card in the 15th minute after the referee said that he fell inside the penalty area to try to get a penalty kick.
After receiving a pass from his teammate Matthews Silva inside the penalty area, Pedro scored the equalizing goal for Flamengo in the 20th minute by shooting directly into the net.
Al-Maouf and Al-Hilal’s defense was on time, and after 35 minutes, the tie (1-1) remained in place despite Flamengo’s dominance of the ball and constant attacks.
After returning to the VAR technique, the referee awarded Al-Hilal a penalty kick after Vietto was blocked inside the penalty area by Flamengo defender Gerson Santos, who received a second yellow card and was kicked out of the stadium.
Al-Zaeem won the first half 2-1 thanks to Salem Al-Dosari’s second penalty kick at the 45+9 minute mark.
Coach Vitor Pereira of Flamengo made two substitutions in the second half: Eric Polgar and Fabricio Bruno came in, and Georgian de Arascaita and Leo Pereira left.
Before Al Hilal returned and the Brazilian team exchanged attacks without yielding anything, Flamengo took control of the ball and attempted offensively to adjust the score.
Al Hilal coach Ramon Diaz pushed Brazilian Michel Delgado and told Nigerian striker Ighalo to start the offensive side in the 57th minute.
After Marija skillfully passed Flamengo defenders inside the penalty area and passed the ball to Khalifa Al-Dosari, whose shot was returned by the crossbar in the 59th minute, the left-back missed an opportunity to score.
Vito added the leader’s third goal in the 70th minute, receiving a wonderful pass from Salem Al-Dosari and firing a powerful shot into the net. Al-Hilal had multiple opportunities through quick counterattacks, but they were of no real use.
Al-Hilal players displayed their skills, controlled the ball in the final minutes, and reached the Flamengo goal multiple times. However, they did not score a fourth goal in response to these attacks.
After following Gabriel Barbosa’s shot, which hit the defense and went to Pedro to put it in the empty net, Pedro sparked the conflict once more in the first minute of overtime by scoring the second goal for his team.
Salem Al-Dosari missed an opportunity to score the fourth goal as Flamengo pressed hard in the final minutes, resulting in Al-Hilal’s historic qualification for the World Cup final.
