Barcelona’s Olmo Registration Issue Resurfaces Amidst Tensions

Date:

Barcelona could face the potential loss of several players for the Spanish Super Cup early next year.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona was under the mistaken impression that they had until January 19 to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor due to a misinterpretation of the Spanish Federation’s rules. While no La Liga matches are scheduled until the second week of January, the Copa del Rey fixtures are set for January 3, 4, or 5, and again on January 14, 15, or 16.

The newspaper reported that, with the backing of the federation, Barcelona believed it wasn’t urgent to reactivate the temporary registrations of Olmo and Victor. As a result, the club had a three-week window to ensure compliance with the fair play regulations.

However, the same source confirmed that La Liga will review the validity of the licenses granted by the local federation. Without these licenses, Olmo and Victor would not be eligible to play in any competition.

Barcelona had postponed Olmo’s registration after his summer transfer from Leipzig. The second registration window for the season opens on January 3, meaning any player Barcelona wants to include in matches must be officially registered by the start of the new year.
