Bayern Munich revealed the kit it will play in the Champions League, which is inspired by a card game known as “Schaffkopf”, a traditional game in the state of Bavaria and its surroundings.
The set, which features a dark gray color with two red stripes, will include inside the designated shape of the four symbols of the game’s cards “acorn, grass, heart, and bells”.
Bayern star Thomas Muller said: “Schaffkopf is part of Bayern – and with a squad like this, the heart of Bayern will be superior! We will have the upper hand in every game.”
Chief Executive Officer Oliver Kahn said the game was “a wonderful tradition – at our club and also with our fans”.
He added: “Generations of Bayern players, from Sepp Maier, Gerd Muller, Uli Hoeness, Franz Roth to Klaus Augenthaler and Manfred Schwabel to Philipp Lahm and Thomas Muller have always played Schaffkopf here.”
