Mourinho: We are not favorites to win the Scudetto

Date:

AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho has insisted that his team is not a favorite to win the Italian Serie A title, whose new season begins on Saturday.

“Unfortunately, the transfer market is not over yet. We will play 3 or 4 matches before the end of the Mercato. It is very easy to judge our deals, but it is better to wait,” Mourinho said, in his statements to the press conference before tomorrow’s match against Salernitana.

He added, “The market is open to everyone. We lost strong players like Mkhitaryan and Vertu, while we signed 5 players alongside a young goalkeeper. I gave the green light to sign these players. I have a good relationship with the club, so I am not disappointed and should be commended for what they did.”

On Roma’s candidacy for the league title, Jose commented, “The second season usually brings more awareness for us as coaches. There are conditions for improvement in the second season.”

He continued, “We have to win the Europa League if we want to improve in Europe, but there are clubs with different economic strengths that can spend 100, 150 million euros every season. We improved our team by bringing in new players, but others did the same, so I didn’t need to speak at this time.

And he added, “Only Sampdoria and Lecce spent less than us, so we can talk about Roma as a candidate for the Scudetto only if there are 18 titles available. Milan and Inter have improved their team, and I don’t think Roma are the favorites to win the title.”
