De’Aaron Fox signs $229M Spurs extension
De’Aaron Fox has officially committed his future to the San Antonio Spurs, signing a massive four-year, $229 million contract extension that will keep him in Texas through the 2029–30 NBA season.
According to reports from ESPN and The Athletic, the 2023 All-Star was due to hit free agency next year, but his stellar performances and quick chemistry with the team convinced the Spurs to lock him in early. Fox arrived in San Antonio mid-season via a trade with the Sacramento Kings and made an immediate impact before a finger injury in March ended his season.
Fox shines in brief Spurs stint
In just 17 games with San Antonio, Fox averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. He was leading the league in steals at the time of his injury and brought much-needed pace and playmaking to the Spurs’ backcourt.
Despite his shortened campaign, the Spurs clearly saw enough to believe in the long-term potential of pairing De’Aaron Fox with their new generation of talent.
Building the Spurs of tomorrow
De’Aaron Fox joins forces with Victor Wembanyama, the franchise’s young superstar, as well as Stephon Cassell — last season’s Rookie of the Year — and Dylan Harper, the No. 2 pick in June’s NBA Draft. This core group forms the foundation of a promising rebuild in San Antonio.
At 27, Fox brings veteran leadership and All-Star experience to one of the league’s most exciting young rosters. With a multi-year deal now in place, the Spurs are making it clear they’re ready to compete and build toward future championship runs.
