UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev (24-1) extended his winning streak to 12 wins by defeating Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski (25-2) at UFC 284.
Makhachev currently occupies the 8th line in the list of fighters with the longest winning streak. Anderson Silva has 16 wins in a row (2006-2013), Kamaru Usman has 15 (2015-2022), Jon Jones has 13 (2010-2017), Demetrius Johnson has 13 (2012-2018), Georges St-Pierre – 13 (2007-2017), Max Holloway – 13 (2014-2019), Khabib Nurmagomedov – 13 (2012-2023).
- “It doesn’t matter how I won today, but now I am not only a champion, but also the best fighter in the world. I am very happy, this is my dream,” Makhachev said at a press conference.
The Russian also said that “the harder the victory, the sweeter it is.”
In turn, Volkanovski suffered his first loss in the UFC and the first decision loss of his career. He ended his 22-win streak since 2013.
