We have been informed by sources that LeBron James will make his first appearance at Madison Square Garden in three years against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night.
“Significant soreness” in his left foot prevented James from participating in the Los Angeles Lakers 121-104 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, according to Lakers coach Darvin Ham.
The four-time MVP once tweeted that playing in the Garden was his favorite part of New York City, and he will get the chance to do so for the first time since January 2020. He was sidelined for the game two years ago because of a high ankle sprain, and he missed the game this season because of a suspension for a fight with Isaiah Stewart of the Detroit Pistons.
The veteran of 20 years requires 117 points to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the No. 1 on the NBA’s list of career scorers.
According to the Lakers, Anthony Davis, who was also ruled out of the Nets game due to a right foot injury that kept him out of 20 games from mid-December to late January, is listed as probable for the Knicks game.
The Lakers announced that starting point guard Patrick Beverley will not play against the Knicks because of left knee soreness. Beverley had five points on 1-for-8 shooting, three assists, and four fouls in the loss to Brooklyn.
