Manchester United beat Liverpool with early and late goals
Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 in a fierce northwest derby on Sunday evening, securing their third consecutive Premier League victory and ending Liverpool’s unbeaten home run.
Brian Mbeumo opened the scoring in the very first minute, while Harry Maguire sealed the result with a header in the 84th minute. Cody Gakpo scored Liverpool’s only goal in the 78th minute.
With this win, United moved up to 13 points in ninth place, while Liverpool remains fourth with 15 points.
Mbeumo shocks Anfield as United strike first
It took just 61 seconds for Manchester United to beat Liverpool’s defence, as Bruno Fernandes intercepted the ball and set up Amad Diallo, who found Mbeumo in space to fire home.
Liverpool protested after the play, but the referee allowed the goal to stand, setting a fiery tone for the rest of the match.
Salah and Gakpo tried to pull the hosts level, with Gakpo hitting the post and Salah missing a golden chance as the first half ended with United holding their narrow lead.
Gakpo equalises before Maguire’s decisive header
Liverpool increased the pressure after halftime and finally broke through when substitute Federico Chiesa raced down the wing to assist Cody Gakpo’s equaliser in the 78th minute.
However, United refused to settle. Bruno Fernandes delivered a pinpoint cross, and Harry Maguire rose above everyone to head home the winner in the 84th minute — silencing Anfield.
Liverpool pushed hard in the final moments, but United’s defence stood firm to claim a famous away victory.
