Moritz Wagner’s season with Orlando Magic ends

Date:

Orlando Magic forward Moritz Wagner will miss the remainder of the NBA season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee, the team announced on Sunday.

Wagner, 27, sustained the injury during the first quarter of Saturday’s dramatic 121-114 win over the Miami Heat. An MRI scan on Sunday confirmed the tear, and the Orlando Magic announced that Wagner, who won gold with Germany at the 2023 Basketball World Cup, will require surgery to repair the damage.

The injury is the latest setback in a string of injuries for the Orlando Magic, with both Paulo Banchero and Franz Wagner, Moritz’s brother, also sidelined due to muscle injuries. Banquero has been out since October but is nearing a return, while Franz Wagner was injured earlier this month and will be re-evaluated in January.

Moritz Wagner has had a strong season, averaging 12.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in 18.8 minutes per game. He currently ranks second in points scored off the bench and was in contention for Reserve Player of the Year before this unfortunate injury.
