Argentine star Lionel Messi, the forward for Inter Miami, is set to receive a prestigious honour in the United States.
According to The New York Times and CBS News, President Joe Biden is set to award Lionel Messi the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The medal is the most prestigious civilian award in the United States.
Lionel Messi(37 yo), has been playing for Inter Miami since the summer of 2023, when he joined the American club on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. Since then, Messi has helped the team win the League Cup and the Fans Shield.
His contract with Inter Miami is set to expire in the summer of 2025. However, reports suggest that the club plans to offer him a new deal that would keep him until the summer of 2026, coinciding with the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
