Arsenal vs Sunderland ends 2-2 as Saka and Trossard rescue a point

Arsenal vs Sunderland ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw on Saturday evening, bringing an end to the Gunners’ impressive Premier League winning run. Despite goals from Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard, a late strike from Brian Brobbey salvaged a dramatic point for the home side at the Stadium of Light.

The result keeps Arsenal top of the table with 26 points, seven ahead of Manchester City, who face Liverpool on Sunday. Meanwhile, Sunderland climbed to third with 19 points, extending their unbeaten home record.

Cautious Start and Sunderland’s Breakthrough

The match began cautiously, with Arsenal dominating possession while Sunderland focused on compact defending. The Gunners’ first major threat came in the 16th minute through Declan Rice, whose free-kick forced a fine save from goalkeeper Rufes.

However, the home side struck first in the 36th minute when Daniel Ballard capitalized on a headed assist from Mukiele, smashing the ball into the roof of the net — ending Arsenal’s incredible 812-minute run without conceding.

Arsenal nearly equalized before the break when William Saliba shot over from close range, but the half ended 1-0 in favour of Sunderland.

Saka and Trossard Lead Arsenal’s Comeback

Arteta’s halftime talk clearly inspired a turnaround. Arsenal pressed high, and in the 54th minute, Bukayo Saka leveled the score after winning the ball back in midfield and curling a composed finish into the far corner.

The Gunners’ momentum grew, and after several missed chances — including Zubimendi’s shot off the crossbar — the visitors took the lead in the 74th minute. Leandro Trossard unleashed a thunderous strike from distance to make it 2-1, a goal that looked set to seal the win.

Brobbey’s Late Heroics Stun Arsenal

Sunderland refused to surrender. Goalkeeper David Raya made crucial saves late on to deny Brobbey twice, but the Dutch forward finally found his reward in stoppage time, converting a spectacular overhead kick in the 90+4th minute to snatch a deserved point for the hosts.

It was a gut-punch for Arsenal, who saw their lead evaporate in the final seconds, ending their four-match Premier League winning streak.
