Real Madrid drops points in Vallecas as they drew 0-0 against Rayo

Real Madrid drops points in Vallecas after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Rayo Vallecano on Sunday evening in the 12th round of La Liga.
The result saw the Merengues move to 31 points at the top of the table, while Rayo Vallecano climbed to 15 points in 12th place, as the home side once again proved a tough opponent for Spain’s giants.

Madrid Start Strong but Can’t Break Through

Real Madrid began aggressively at the Estadio de Vallecas, looking to strike early. In the third minute, Arda Guler unleashed a left-footed rocket from the edge of the box, but Stole Dimitrievski (Batalla) produced a stunning save to deny him.

Just moments later, De Frutos sprinted through midfield and beat two defenders, but Asensio intervened just in time to stop the threat.

Rayo responded through a dangerous free kick in the 5th minute, taken by Unai López, though it deflected off the wall and went high.

Real Madrid controlled possession, with Valverde and Bellingham dictating the tempo, while Vinícius Júnior kept Rayo’s defense on edge with his trademark pace and dribbling. In the 22nd minute, Vinícius fired a close-range shot, but Batalla once again came to the rescue with a brilliant save.

Madrid’s best first-half chance came when Asensio met a cross from Carreras, sending a header inches wide of the post. Despite numerous chances, the visitors couldn’t find the net before halftime, with Rayo’s backline standing firm.

Rayo Stand Tall Against Relentless Pressure

After the break, Real Madrid’s intensity increased as they continued their push for a breakthrough. In the 50th minute, De Frutos nearly stunned Courtois with a curling shot that went just wide.

Moments later, Bellingham created space in the box and shot powerfully, but Batalla produced yet another crucial save — his fifth of the night — to keep the score level.

In the 59th minute, Kylian Mbappé tried his luck from distance, narrowly missing, while Unai López and Essie attempted to surprise Courtois with long-range efforts, both going off target.

Rayo’s best opportunity came in the 66th minute when Alvaro García fired over the bar from close range after an excellent cross from Ratiu, a miss that left the home fans gasping.

Real Madrid pressed harder as the match entered its final stages. Valverde’s thunderous strike in the 68th minute was once again parried away by Batalla, who was undoubtedly the hero of the night.

In the final ten minutes, Mbappé appealed for a penalty after being brought down inside the area, but the referee waved play on. Despite continuous pressure, Real Madrid couldn’t find the breakthrough and had to settle for a draw.
